2016 has been filled with some incredible events. We moved to a new, beautiful location, dedicated buildings, graduated children, received two new vehicles and much, much more. Over the next week we will be posting a 2016, year in review out on social media. We hope that you follow along and see how God has blessed us and how many of you have been a blessing to us through your prayers, your time and your financial support.
November and December are always such a busy time for La Aljaba. The children are finishing up with school before their two month break, the staff start to prepare for our annual Christmas party, we close out the year-end budget (prior to the board meeting) and last, but not least enjoy some birthday and graduation celebrations! Included in all of this busyness we dedicated our fourth building on the new property. The ceremony was held early in the morning of December 3rd. It was an incredibly hot morning and as you will seen in one of the photos below, everyone stayed in the shade when possible. Rafa was our Master of Ceremony and we enjoyed time of prayer, music and were spoken to by Paster Julio, Wayne Sneed(Orphanos) and Michael Hogue(Orphanos). The children did an amazing job singing, playing instrustments and our older children led an interpretive dance. We are so proud of all of the amazing talents God has given the children and also their willingness to share with these gifts with others.
Despite the heat, the ceremony was a success, as we had many visitors from around Leticia arrive to aid in the celebration. We are so thankful for all of the support given to help guide La Aljaba where it is today but we must remember that none of this would be possible without Almighty God! We are grateful that he uses us as instruments for his plan!
We mentioned the talented gifts that our students possess and it would be wrong to not mention that three of our gifted teenagers recently graduated from high school: Jessica Hernandez, Francy Carvajal & Jacob Gonzalez. We are very proud of them and can't wait to see what God has planned for their lives. Jessica is currently living in Bogota, with her sister and will attend a 1 year Bible program aimed at an introduction into Enlish, and many other skills with hopes that when she finishes she will make the flight across the ocean to attend university in the United States.(similar to the path Kimberly has started)
The Christmas Party! Always an amazing time. We pass out gifts, sing songs, eat food and enjoy everyone's company. We are thankful to all of our sponsors who lovingly sent gifts with Michael and Julie Hogue. We may truly never know how great the impact of our sponsors are in the lives of the children and the gifts are just a small part. :) To see all of the smiling faces, laughing and "happy tears" brings us great joy. If you sponsor a child, you hopefully have received communication from Julie with a quick update and a photo. Thank you very much!
Thanks to everyone who has supported La Aljaba over the years and we are thakful to those who continue to support. 2016 was an amazing year and we expect 2017 to be even better.
